When v3 releases, maybe have an option to be on v2? Or at least v2.5, a hybrid between v2 and v3. It could also be a cool upgraded feature if you're into that kind of stuff. Nostalgia is a funny thing.

V2 and V3 are like Windows XP and Windows 10. Its not just the theme, it has a huge amount of features that are not on V2. I can't tell you now, but you will see.
V3 has certain new *things* that need to be rebuilt on V2. But it will just double the work. Not denying this completely, but its highly unlikely.

You can still write your own userscripts and templates if you like.
I also use a userscript to improve my expierience on here cuz some things on V2 are really annoying.

I've seen a few of these things that aren't on V2, but maybe just disable them in legacy mode?

If it doesn't get to happen, then I'll probably end up doing that anyways.
