Don't update then? Unless you need to get new apps it's not mandatory. I still use my ipad 1 with ios 5.1.1
I can't install new apps but it's ok for web browsing.

I've had iOS 10 since the first release of it (Developer Beta), it's honestly not as buggy as when that came out.

I sold my iPhone, now I use oneplus 2 and I'm very happy !
