*This rant was originally one I made on TTG because all the gamers on there who named themselves 'hackers'.

Todays rant - People who don't understand the difference between Modding and Hacking, but just call themselves hackers anyways.

Welcome to today's rant, people who call themselves "hackers" but are really "modders", now let's continue, shall we?

I have seen it a lot recently, mainly within the gaming community that gamers who use a modified Xbox/Playstation refer to themselves as "hackers" when the reality is they don't know what a hacker really is, they think hosting a modded (often referred to as a 'hacked') lobby makes them a hacker.
Now that really annoys me when I see kids with gamertags like "Welsh hacker" < this kid has a modified Xbox and doesn't know what DDoS stands for.

A simple internet search will provide people with the difference but even at that they don't understand, so I'll leave two Wikipedia links and explain the difference, then maybe you will have an opinion on this as you might not have thought about it.

Modding - Wikipedia
Hacker - Wikipedia

Now after reading those you should know the difference,
Modder - Someone who can use a modified Xbox to host a lobby for people.
Hacker - Can make mass amount of money and cause mass amount of damage to Governments and Companies.
Obviously there is more to it than what I said but you get what I'm saying.

Everyone is a hacker nowadays, has a million on the bank, fucks three bitches a day and makes a living off doing nothing. Might drift off the topic a bit, but that's how I see it.
Surpise, surprise.

I just raged at them on there when I made the thread. It annoys me that they honestly don't know the difference because they are either stupid or just I don't even know what else they could be aha.

Everyone wants to be fame nowadays with something they enjoy doing. And even if they don't enjoy it, they'd do everything to get atleast a little bit of attention.

Well, it depends on if the person just bought a hacked console or did it themselves.
JTAG/RGH (Xbox) are based on exploits in the consoles software and hardware, therefore it is considered hacking into it to exploit it. If you just bought it like that then sure. Jailbreaking for PS is a software exploit too, so doing that is a form of hacking. Although, it doesn't really give you the title of a hacker. But kids will be kids.

People modding games, yes that's not hacking. Also I wouldn't say DDoS is hacking in the slightest way, these days you put an IP in a textbox and click Boot... Before this era, sure...

IMO, to be called a hacker confidently in this day and age, you would need to be into things like SQL Injection or high risk XSS vulnerabilities. This among many other form of penetration into networks/services. DDoS not being one of them.

I wasn't meaning DDoS was hacking, I was meaning that it's such a common thing you see people talk about in the world and on hacking forums yet more than 90% of them have no clue what it means.
I actually seen a kid on TTG complaining about his Twitch was being DDoS'ed and his address posted on it. He wanted to stop the DDoS not the fact he had been Dox'ed.
Really makes me wonder sometimes but it's simple things like this that gets me annoyed haha.

Your right.
Now a days people using mods in their games call themselves hackers.
Point to be noted.

This pisses me off also, I see these people who are like 'I hacked xbox' I'm like rly. Hacking takes skill. Modding doesn't. Scripting the mods however are people inbetween.

I'll agree with you there I was meaning the people who buy a modded xbox and thats it, they define themselves as hackers.
