I'll give you an entire list of Anime that can be considered "sad". Some of these may not be an anime that has a sad theme throughout the entire story, but it definitely has some hard-hitting moments. THESE ARE NO SPOILER EXPLANATIONS, MOST INFORMATION TOLD CAN BE SEEN IN THE FIRST EPISODE OR THE FIRST 10 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE.

1) Clannad/Clannad After Story
-This is a story that follows Tomoya Okazaki. It is a story of his life, where he goes through many struggles. Although it may not seem like a sad story at first, trust me, it gets worse. His life and his relationships fall apart around him. This anime was probably the saddest I have ever seen.

2) Anohana
-This story follows the life of Jinta Yadomi. He had his childhood friend pass away when he was a child, and it has made him very depressed in the years coming. The catch of this story is that the girl who died, Menma, is a ghost who follows him around. Is he imagining her, or is it really the spirit of his dead childhood friend?

3) Plastic Memories
-In a world where society has created humanoid androids called "Giftias", life seems to be good. These extremely human-like Giftias can do anything that a normal human can do; Talk, work, sleep, write, learn, laugh, and even feel emotion. Although, these Giftias only live for 10 years. This is the world in which the protagonist, Tsukasa Mizugaki, lives. He works for a company that has to shut down the Giftias that run out of lifespan.

4) A Silent Voice/Koe no Katachi
-This is one of the most beautiful films I have seen in my entire life. The story starts off with a boy, Shoya, who is considered one of the "cool kids" in elementary school. He is loud, obnoxious, and makes himself out to be a comedic character. One day, a girl, Shouko, joins his classroom. She is deaf, and Shoya decides to bully her because he thinks its funny. He continues to harass her and ruin her life, while all she wants is to be his friend. Soon after, Shoya loses all of his friends because of his bullying, and this puts him in a state of deep, DEEP, depression. Shouko, the deaf girl, moves school and transfers away. He goes years and years, up until his late highschool life, having no friends and feeling guilty for everything he did in his past. Before deciding to commit suicide, he tries to find Shouko and say sorry to her. After seeing her again, he feels horrible and has a change of heart.

5) Your Name/Kimi no Nawa
-This is a beautiful and fantastic anime with just as amazing visuals. The style and animation of this anime movie is absolutely gorgeous, and the vivid colors bring this anime to life. The story follows the characters Taki and Mitsuha, who are switching bodies around twice a week and living each other's lives. At first, they think they are dreaming, but later they soon realize they really are switching bodies. This story is a romance story that brings you through a rollercoaster of emotions, and it is a MUST watch over any other show on this list.

Surprised no ones mentioned Evangelion yet. Maybe a bit too obvious/popular? No fucks given, one of my favorites and a guarantee for feels. Also, Cowboy bebop.

im also wondering because ive started to be interested in the genre of show and i intend to get ionto it more!
