Straight Pride: Yay or Nay

I totally understand (and agree to some degree) saying there is a double standard involved when it comes to straight pride vs. gay pride, but I don't think they are the same thing. I do, however, think that by there being such a large "gay pride" movement they are making it seem as though they are "different" which is the exact thing I thought they were trying to stop. If you want to be taken as equal to everyone else, don't demand to be treated better. We're all on a level playing field and I think the better part of society feels that way.

An estimated 3.8% of the United States identifies as gay. By not being a part of the majority, they are considered outside of the social norms in some countries, which unfortunately leads to discriminatory practices in some countries. In these cases the movements are needed to stop alienating a portion of the populous, but sometimes it can get a little obnoxious.

Just like I said, it's pointless. I will go to say it's fucked up. The only thing I don't like about the lgbt pride movement is when they feel entitled to make accommodations that affect everyone else. 3rd genderless bathroom or something, allowing trans to go into the bathroom that fits their gender, correct pronouns, forcing religious business owners to do things for them that goes against their beliefs, etc.

Yeah,this is where I start to have a problem. They believe that by being different they are automatically entitled to being treated like Kings and Queens. I remember when people went absolutely bat shit insane over the Christian baker who refused to bake a cake for a gay couples wedding because he felt as though he would be going against his beliefs and values as a Christian.

They scream for equality yet make demands. It makes no sense.

My thought process was that if people wanted true equality, then they should be able to accept people having the same events / marches that they have. But your responses and comparisons had me see it in a new light

Hmm i see it this way, if a group is generally hated on, or at least a big minority, or something that an average person would consider weird, then if they wanna come out, and show their Pride, they are showing that they are proud to be what they are. However when you are in the ``normal`` group of people, its weird to show ``pride`` for doing something normal. You are not gonna have parades of straight people, ever. But honestly i think everyone should be proud of what they are and what they believe in

Now and days there are people celebrating the Gay Pride movement. Which, great for them. I'm glad that they are able to be happy with who they are, and how us as a society are accepting of people with differing beliefs and such. It was met with immediate backlash by multiple sources. People calling me "homophobic" and "insensitive" when I made no comments that attempted to demean the opposing side.

This, while being funny, seemed troubling to me. I feel like (at least from what I've seen), that this "Gay Pride' community, at least on Instagram, were unwilling to actually accept the true definition of equality, and wanted to feel like they deserve some sort of special treatment because of who they are. Although I don't believe that they deserve to be scrutinized for what they believe in, I also don't believe that they should be held as above other people. Because what kind of sense / progress would that make?

Anyway, I would love to hear if you guys have any opposing points. It would be nice to hear an opposing argument, and try and find a middle ground.

This is the best thing ever. Seeing minds opened and viewing things differently makes me so happy.

I don't think we straight people need to make a point about it because it is a known fact, and it is kind of the way that we should be, but of course we must be tolerant of others.
