Laptops are very versitile, and most are pretty decent at everything. NOTE: you will never get the same power in a laptop as a desktop computer, and you will never get power as good in a built desktop than building a computer yourself.

With that being said, the best thing to do with laptops is look for good deals. I found my current laptop on Amazon for $600, and its a $900 retail. I got pretty lucky, but sales like that go on ALL the time.

My advice is to stay away from Acer. Toshibas have been number one for a while (my current is Toshiba), I like Dells and HPs also. My Toshiba is 2 years old now and has never slowed me down.

I'll stress again, though, unless you NEED a laptops mobility, you should consider building a computer. http://www.pcpartpicker.com helps you 100% if you don't know the parts you need, and shows compatability. It is wonderful!
