Indeed it did.

I find it funny how people think the chicken and egg question is so profound. Obviously it was an egg, because otherwise there would be no resultant chicken.

But how would the egg be able to hatch and how would the chick inside of the egg be able to live without the proper care and attention they need ?

Because it was a slow [our perception of time] process of genetic mutation that gave us the eventual chicken. Slowly species change but it is over such large periods of time with slight differences here and there. Evolution is difficult to observe with our life span limitations.

Of course these aren't established facts but they''re the best we've got.

Perhaps it is a trick question. Both came at the same time, left here by aliens.

I would say the chicken. It's probably a mutated version of a eagle or some shit and it's species just so happened to survive all these years.
