This is something that works well for my community, it allows better and easier feedback for status and resolution of reports as well as an easy way to contact the mod team as a whole. Neither of these may be a huge issue for many forums, but my members certainly appreciate this method.

The issues:

1 Reports. A member reports a post. The report manager allows a very basic response re: resolution etc. via an alert. If the reports are sent to a forum, then the reporter needs feeding back via conversation etc.
2 Contact. If a member wants to discuss something with moderators (as opposed to just one specific mod via conversation) there is no way to do this easily. You could paste all mods names into a conversation, but maybe you don't want all users to have permissions for multiple recipients.

Solution:

  1. Create a forum (can be hidden from node list). I call this Contact Mods (your threads are private)
  2. Set forum permissions to so registered usergroup cannot view threads by others, moderator usergroup can view threads by others. Unregistered cannot view the node.
  3. In Options > User discouragement and discipline, set this as the forum that reports go to (this disables the report manager system)
  4. You may want a prominent link that registered users can see, either in the navigation, footer or sidebar. (see below)
  5. I set a big notice in that forum reassuring the member who reports or contacts that it is private.
So now whenever a member makes a report, mods can discuss the report with the member who reported and maybe get more info, give them better feedback. Members can use the forum for general queries also. If mods want to discuss without the member then they can just copy into their own admin forum, while still keeping open a discussion with the member to keep them informed that it is being discussed.

Link for registered users. Edit your forum node URL portion:
