how do you get people to join your gmod server

when i get my gmod server how will i get people to join it?

By making sure it is good.

Best thing to have in a server is a fast load time, no script/lua errors, friendly staff and players.

Have a good returning factor. Don't just give things away but make it easy enough to earn with a day or 2 of grinding. Have something to keep them coming back. Stay away from cookie cutter concepts like "hey man buy donor admin for x amount of money" or "This job is for VIP only". Don't create a monarch..make everyone equal.
Running a DarkRP server is SUPER hard. It's takes alot of money to hire coders to do stuff for you unless you want a generic, scriptfodder created server. The reason Zarp and ICE are the top servers is because they don't use anything from workshop or scriptfodder. Everything is coding FOR them.

Steam group and mass invite people!

1. Make sure it is stable and of some quality.
   
2. Offer something you can't find anywhere else or at least is rare to find.
   
3. Aim towards a specific niche and tailor the server to suit an audience of said niche.
   
4. Advertise the server in other communities that share said niche.
   

Buy piar from some youtubers or streamers. They will play on ur server and its nice advert!

Make sure its good, set up properly, advertised well, solid admins, good owner, etc.
