how should i use my knowledge of a computer langague

right now i'm learning java through a class at my school and have learned a lot but the problem is, is that i don't really know what to do with it other than to code like some minecraft plugins or some shit but I don't know bukkit API and shit like that. anyways, what should i use with my knowledge of java so far?

I would recommend looking into website building with java. Or at least branching off into javascript based languages.

Java is an archaic language now a days and should be put down. But for some reason people love to use it for anything. VMware is HEAVY into java as well (or at least their toolkits such as VSM) and there could be some serious money in that if you get into their troubleshooting efforts.

Basically, find a niche and just stick with it. You can always learn more.

To be honest, you should make whatever you enjoy. I don't think there's a point in programming for fun unless you're actually enjoying it. Make a text based game if you enjoy it, make programs depending on how good you are with the language. The only real way to improve is by coding and experiencing things. There are also lots of websites with programming problems if you'd like to test your luck with these.

If you want to make minecraft plugins then learn the bukkit API, it's really not that complicated and can be pretty fun.

Coding Minecraft plugins will help expand your knowledge of Java, but it's not gonna get you far job-wise if that's what you're looking for.
Building small programs to solve things for yourself, such as automation will also help you.
If you create small apps to replace what you have already as a test for yourself.

Find some open source projects to contribute to, people there will critique your code and help you learn more things outside of class.
