Are Forums Dying?

THey are getting less popular with the advent of messaging. Younger users,for the most part, have a short memory span, so short bursts of information works for them.
They have less time for discussion longer than a few words.

I was wondering this too the other day. I still love using forums, but it does seem like Facebook Groups and the like are growing... For some reason I just don't like them as much when folks try to use a Group for the same stuff that Forums have been for, for years. Here's what I really don't get though... Forums have always contained all the same basic functionality as social media sites, way before social media existed. Why is it that more ppl seem to interact through social media sites than through forums, when forums have always been the same thing, just visually organized and presented a little differently?

Maybe forums are less popular due to other ways of communications, but those are like advanced forums in some way, I would say.

These other ways of communication have always been around, forums just aren't popping anymore tbh.

I think various forms of modern social media (e.g. Twitter or Facebook) have replaced forums for a lot of people. I think forums will always have their niche use cases though.

Yes forums are dying, social media has taken over. But we have seen this.... forums will be back soon. People are already getting sick of social media and forums will become the nextbig thing again.

Not sure about social networks, but I do think forums are losing to Q&A systems.

nope forums are not dying, forums just are becoming more niche oriented, what was a large forum years ago, now just have separated into little niches - more forums
