Is bitcoin mining still profitable on consumer hardware?

I wanted to know if bitcoin mining is still more profitable on consumer hardware.

It was in my opinion never profitable, you can just buy bitcoin when price is low or farm them but you pay more money for power then that you invest so

currently bitcoin mining by hardware is seeming non profitable, i have hard of mining by software on a distributed network but not sure how profitable that can be...
