Nginx + PHP FPM. Integrate Mod security rules on Nginx and harden your PHP, will make server secure. You also route your traffic through CDN service like Cloudflare, this will add additional layer of security.

performance ? go for nginx
but if you want to customize and work around a lot of stuff, use apache

If you have to choose between the two, go for Apache.

But I can personally recommend you to take a look in to LiteSpeed Web Server as well. It's god dang fast.

So;

from my experience.

Nginx is a lot more secure then Apache is and does have better performance stats.

However- I mostly use Apache as I run WHMCS which performs greater off Apache.

It really depends on what you're running but if I was going for security- then it'd be Nginx.

Quote:[Everyone]: [Apache or Nginx]

Have you considered node? What a node server lacks it makes up for control and ease of re-programming. You could set up a basic load balancer using Bouncy and Express in minutes, or a more complex and efficientone using node NET module. IDK I just love my Node servers. I suggest you give it a try if you know JavaScript ^^
