retrievers are very high maintenance dogs, they require lots of playtime, but they're cool as heck

You should get a German Shephard tbh, they're great.

Get a dog that fits your current activity level, don't think you will change your whole life just because you have a dog that requires a lot of activity. I've got a Lab and he's great, but if I were to under stimulate him it would be a bad experience and not fair to him.

Newfies are huge hairy balls of love! I adore them, but they definitely have a steep learning curve in terms of special upkeep (all that fur!) and activity requirements. Retrievers are lovely dogs, also very active, but probably require less learning to own as compared to Newfies. What do you like about those breeds?

Remember the rope when walking the dog, some of us have been bitten by a dog

Hope you know what you are signing up to.
You get a friend for a long time that you need to take care for.
Just think before buying again, alot of people put the dog for sale after 1 month because they werent ready.

Before you make this big step in your life, you have to know that owning a dog requires a lot of things. Think of him like a baby. He will be by your side for years, and will expect you to do the same by treating him like your own. Simply, you have to be prepared, and also when buying one, you have to choose a breed that also matches your personality and life style.
