Id recommend adopting rather than buying a dog from a breeder. Dogs are amazing and the most loyal creatures ever. I dont know what Id do without my dogs.
I second this. Avoid breeders and pet stores, I've only heard bad things about them. Adopting is almost always cheaper, and dogs will usually already have necessary vaccines and be neutered/spayed. The shelter we adopted our dog also had partnerships with some local vets and pet stores so our other vaccinations were cheaper too.

Getting a dog is a tremendous commitment, especially if you want them to grow obedient. You need time and energy to take care of them but they're really loveable.

Don't buy a dog, but get one from an animal shelter. They need homes, too. Plus, you get to actually know the dog before you choose one, so you make sure you are compatible. There are lots of different characters!

I got myself a little chihuahua, hes pretty cool. Not like the ones who are just a shaking ball of pure anger. He just vibes with me and sleeps. They are fucking expensive though. A couple days ago he got impaled by god knows what, and to go to the vet for them to tell me its alright just give him these pills, fucking 3 grand.

I owned burnese mountain dogs so heres some things you should really understand for the benefit of a beautiful creature you are brining into your family

- Big dogs need big space, Backyards hikes / walks
- Big dogs live on average 6 - 8 years.

- You will need to brush breeds like newfounlands in the summer, this parts important Im saying Brush not CUT. Long hair breed dogs have insulation designed into their fur. thanks to evolution they don't need to take off their coats and are ready for all seasons. If you cut the dogs hair it will take half its lifespan to fully recover. Do not do this if you want whats best for them, Brush their hair never cut it for the hot weather.

- A dog is a new member of the family, it literally relies on you for its entire life, Feeding it $1000 a year, Vet check once a year for dental ( around $300 max don't get pet insurance you wont use it that much and it ends up the same unless your dog really needs procedures.)

- Don't be over affectionate with your dog or any animal, To much love can be a bad thing, it can make them extremely depend and on your reassurance and affection which creates anxiety and barking. This looks like:
-Your dog scratching the hell out of your front door waiting for you to get home
- barking when you're not home / howling / crying
- Highly aggressive towards other dogs ( basically being clingy to you )

Im not saying don;t love your dog, but if you reward it everyday with treats for no reason, don't set boundries and let it lay all over the place and your spaces all the time itll develop this way i mentioned above. Reward it when they do good, when you are proud and happy for them. When they've spent a long time without you or sometimes just as a surprise to spice up their day but again NOT ALL THE TIME. NOT TO OFTEN.

Enjoy the new family member, it's a commitment.
