What's important really is familiarizing yourself with the basics AND your gear. Knowing the capabilities of your gear will contribute to better shots. Also, focus on one field of photography at a time. Example, you can start with basic portrait photography, then landscape, later move to macro, and so on and so forth. Experience is the key. Go get your hands....and camera dirty xD
