I use mainly visual studio code, notepad++ and notepad.

For some quick changes or notetaking Notepad++

For anything more serious vscode. Though I much prefer phpstorm, I simply can't afford it nor justify the cost for my usecase.

I use VSCode but honestly Atom is pretty nice too (I find it simpler). I havent had issues with VSCode, but I expect thats OS dependent and also depends on what type of programming you do. For JavaScript/Node applications VSCode just feels perfect to me.

Visual Studio Code.
1. Easy to use
2. Lightweight
3. Lots and Lots of extensions
4. Customization options
5. Detects which language im editing without telling the software.
