Bro, you need to configure the router, not "plug and use", log in to your router settings via the browser, set all the channels, the maximum speed and such.

I'm not an idiot of course I did that.

did you set your channels or are they automatic set?

That is one thing I don't know about. I'm not the best at router config. Anyway you'd be willing to jump on tv and see if I setup the best settings?

Well, I would but - it's best not for me to mess with your settings considering all the different ISP's and settings and shit, make sure your channels are automatic, normally the best channels are: 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 48, just varies on the different ISP, example my perfect channel is 48, any different and my speeds are 10mbps which is shite.

You should position your router away from any solid walls, and avoid the paths of any other electronics. If your router doesn't have Intelligent WIFI, you need to use the Android app "WIFI Analyzer" and see which channel is least congested and switch it to that.

If that is still giving a bad speed, you should re-position it and also test the speed standing next to it to rule out a distance issue.

I just moved the router into my room and plugged it up via ethernet cable rather than wifi. It ran at about 6 mbps on wifi, but now with the cable the speedtest is saying it's running at about 80 mbps. But, the other pc's in my house are running at around 6 mbps. This is so confusing.

tbh, Your router is drunk. at first it was 20 MBps then it got 7 and then 6 and now its 80Mbps..

I use the one provided by my ISP and it runs cool

He clearly says he is getting 80Mbps when using the Ethernet interface, and 6Mbps when he's on the WAP (Wireless).

It's prolly a shit router.
Why not stay w/ old?

Like I said, the older one is a stock Comcast one. The new one is a good one, but something is just off.

There is a reason they give you a router... Because it works!

Maybe because there is more than one device in his household?
