I want to know which is best os for programmers and why?

Most programmers use Linux which I'd also prefer over anything else.
Some say that you should code on the OS you're targeting the thing you're doing.
Although if you're web designing I'd prefer Mac just because of the beautiful retina display.

I am using elementary os for coding and windows for other shit.

Well, Linux is more stable than Windows, so I prefer Linux.

The thing is. If you wanna make stuff for windows, your best bet would be developing shit on windows.
If you're gonna make it multiplatform, or like php/html/css, it doesn't matter at all.

I like Linux a lot, it's more stable and more user-friendly.

Depends what you are programming, I'd personally use Linux for most universal/web languages - but if it's a specific need i.e C#.NET then you should use the native system.

And always, always have a testing box - even if it's just a virtual machine.

It's depends what are you focusing on. If you focusing about linux you should trie mac osx
