Why do humans judge others by looks?

Personality is what matters most, sure you can look at someone that is "easy on the eyes" but if they are a terrible human being, they are going to be a lot harder to deal with in the long run.

Because of our nature of attraction, we judge other of the opposite sex by looks to see if they are healthy to fertilise eggs or bear and share our children and those of our own sex just for the reason of having friends surrounding us that we like the look of. looks aren't completely objective thats why one person may think your more attractive then another.

If theory of evolution is correct, then it's because it's natural to find a mate who's appealing aesthetically.

Simply because our brains are like that, whether we like it or not. It's not that people who judge from appearance are dumb, it's just that it's the first thing we learn when we see a new person. Judging off appearance first isn't that wrong, it only becomes wrong if you don't change your opinion on the person after you actually get to know what they're like. Read about the Halo effect, it seems like it would interest you.

Maybe it's the only one thing way to make an opinion about interlocutors?

I believe this is an instinctual behavior. Everyone judges others for what they do and how they appear. It's just natural and really can't be avoided. The only thing you can change is how you change people and make your judgment either more positive or negative.

It's a combination of ignorant prejudice and existing facts that are sadly intertwined together giving a muddy result.

Allow me to explain: With every race, ethnicity, sex, weight, and every other characteristic possibly conceivable, there is a certain way people will view the human being. This is either due to past experience with a certain large group of individuals who matched the characteristic, or with the overall actions that a majority of people within the group of characteristics commit.

Here's an example: I'm Hispanic. If you looked at the rates of which Hispanics/Latinos commit crimes, statistically speaking you should be afraid of me. But I as an INDIVIDUAL do not follow such statistics. So why is it I must face people and their assumptions? Because when a certain amount of people with a certain characteristic do the same thing over and over again, it becomes less about being racist and sexist, and more about just accepting the facts.

So what must be done? First, the individuals within these groups have to realize what the stereotypes are. Instead of complaining saying, "Oh that's not fair, I'm not like that you racist ect." they have to live individually for themselves. There will then come a point where the stereotype will disappear and to treat someone a certain way will be based on the individual actions and thoughts he/she has, not the characteristics he holds.

I think people tend to do this because they don't have to put as much effort into making their snap judgement than actually getting to know someone. What I think is worse than judging by looks, is not admitting when you've made a mistake and not taking a second look at your faulty opinion.
