is it profittable to open a server now? Getting donations, and if yes, which type of server! looking forward!

Short answer, No.

Long answer:

Opening a Minecraft server for profit requires alot of planning, funding, work, knowledge and a team. You cannot simply open a server and expect donations to start pouring in.
Minecraft servers have recently become an actual industry with sponsors and trades going on behind the scenes.

Too much work. I have made a profitable server, but you need ALOT of time. And luck.

About 2-3 years ago it would be very cool, have your own server, but now ... the game is almost dead, better not worth it.

As someone who has done this. You gotta have something special. Also a lot of advertising goes into these things

It depends on how you run your server. If you run it well and keep it maintained then yes it can be a great source of income, however if you don't, then no.

If you open it in a country with a lot of players and you know how to market the server (advertise it, and price things) and make it attractive enough for people who play the server, then yes!
It can still be very profitable, but you need to put so much work into the server, that most people will just give up before their first cashout paycheck.

you can get donations, but don't forget that you have to pay for the hosting etc.. but still, one thing you should know, the beggining is always hard.
