Usually people get into anime from a really young age, after that, it is probably a little harder to find the appeal, specially if you dont really watch much tv in general
I am not into anime, but my friend who is into anime put it well: its the same reason people get into other things like cars and movies. People can like the art style, the voiceovers or some even like it because of the music.
