I dont get it?

I never got into anime too much mainly becuase I never really understood why its so popular.

I suppose it's popular because it's a facade of reality; Everything's quite pleasant or magical.. Same reason as to why people like Sci-Fi or Fantasy movies and such; It provides a better picture of reality and is a major source of entertainment. Anime always has and probably always will be.. "controversial", some will despise it and others will love it. I enjoy it myself, however, I've met plenty of souls who've hated it.

I like it for the art of it. Compared to many cartoons, its usually always drawn really well and the story lines/plots are pretty involved.

Mostly I think its the escapism. Plus when Anime first became popular CGI and other filming techniques in live action films were quite low quality. You could paint a better picture with Anime of fantasy and science fiction. Today I think its more about the Art and story plots.

I like the Shounen ones, with superpowers and humor. The slice of life genre never got me either. The thing I like about Shounen is that the artists put a lot of thought, work and emotions in their animes, which I think western cartoons lack a lot.

The appeal of Anime is in the style, and teh stories. They are usually made in japan and have a distinct art style and making of them. I suggest just going to crunchyroll and trying to watch an anime episode or too and see if you like it.

I enjoy it because of it being funny usually, sometimes its even cool seeing the art.

I don't really know why I gravitated towards anime.

I think part of it is that I saw the main shounen animes as a kid, so there's a sort of nostalgia to it. However, when I was older, I think I got into it because I heard about so many goods ones which I just started watching and binging on. I also think that it may be because anime is a very large medium which continues to keep making more and more.

I still enjoy other forms of visual media such as films, shows and documentaries, but I spend most of my time watching Youtube and anime. I tend to enjoy the animes which are well produced, but if we had to talk about genre, I would say that I enjoy comedies for the laughs, shounens for the epicness, romance for the feels, questionable premises and mystery for the mindblows, and psychological for the ol' thinking cap.

I'm still fresh on the manga scene, but I've come to appreciate it as a form of instant gratification, until its the last page, kinda thing.

Another part of anime that interests me, is the music. The openings and endings of some animes are truly a delight to listen to.

There are people who also buy figurines, subscribe to monthly anime goods and go to conventions, but for me, I think it's a bit too much, and so I refrain from it. I am open to the idea of having these items, but I don't think I could have a room full of them.
