Now thats its a new year my old rig could use an upgrade, so here is what I have now.

i5 4690k
16GB Mushkin Blackline
Krait z97 board
GTX 780ti SLI
1200i PSU
850 Evo SSD
A lot of 1tbs

Upgrades

EVGA 980ti SLI
i5 6600k
Still looking for mobo
32GB DDR4 of something i guess
NZXT Kraken x61
Define R5 Black window
I really want an m.2 SSD but I'll see.

I know my current build is actually pretty good, but all I play is PC so I want to get it as best it can be Smile.

I'll be able to order all the parts by next Friday (probably soonersince I'm making $250 a day at the moment).I'm going to by most of the parts at my local best buy so I don't have to wait for shipping, but sadly they dont keep the 980TI I want in stock.

Probably around 2k, but hopefully not over 3k. I plan on getting a new set of monitors too, I may just get one big 4k panel.

Eh, don't just stick with one monitor. I'd go ahead and get three/four and do that kind of setup; with a smaller one on top for streaming.

I really don't do much if any multi-tasking, I already have three monitors, and yet, I only use one haha.

I'm more focused on gaming more than anything, I'm not really interested in content producing.

Are you sure this is worth the money?

I don't think going from a decent i5to a decent i5 is thatgreat. I don't see any benefit for the money there.
You should wait until Pascal is released, they are said to be up to 40% (some say 10x)quicker than Maxwell (980 Ti). It's expected to release mid year.
32GB of RAM for gaming is not necessary, but I guesssome people just "want it" for aesthetics.
M.2 NVMeSSDsareballs to the walls fantastic, grab yourself a 950 Pro.
Only get the Kraken X61 if you're getting an i7 or intend tofull blowrapeyour i5 with overclocking.

If I were you, I would actually only upgrade the GPUs. Your existing build is still very capable. If you really wanted M.2, grab yourself a PCI-E card.

He will likely be gaming at 4K, in which case he will need these cards in order to gain anything remotely exciting out of the resolution. As well as the 970 3.5GB VRAM being a limiting factor at 4K, most games use near 4GB at 1080p.

Well, yeah. 4k gaming is what this rig is going to be for, and when Pascal comes out I'll probably sell the 980s and put some cash on top for the new cards if they're worth it, which judging by what is known now, its worth it.
