This is important because we cant live in a bubble. Just be careful as the choices you make now will determine the course of your life and also take the time to look at what people around you are concerned about. PS: You are not wasting your time..

Find a place or a thing you like to work with/on (in your case its game development), and pursue that. Imagine how many people told TSM Myth how much time he was wasting, how many people told some of todays biggest inventors how much time they were wasting? Or this generation of rappers? they all are told they waste their time but whos fault is it when you succeed and they living homeless?

I would like to add something else if you take a look into the history of artistic mediums when movies first became widespread, many people had the same negative opinions about it that people have about games today. If you go even further pack, with art styles or forms of poetry, or music you'll notice the same thing. As history shows every new "format" that has some historical, philosophical, scientific, or educational value overtime becomes more and more accepted and seen in a more and more positive light.
