Advice Needed Guitar Playing

I have had an electric guitar for a while that I have wanted to learn how to play, but I have no clue where to start. Can someone give me some advice on the best ways to start learning?

Youtube is great for learning visually. If you're more of a text book learner, google is your friend

Perhaps someone who has played the guitar can give me some tips on things they wish they knew before playing, or any helpful tips?

The best things in my opinion are to learn basic chords. People call em power chords because you can usually play a lot of songs with three of them and pretend like you're some guitar god

That and scales. Learn the notes and how to go up and down scales.
