My father always thought the work I did was pointless

He thought engineering work was more important to the country and society

But isn't it more important to do the work you love?

With all due respect, this says more about you than him. If you're doing something you like, you should try to be the best you can at that. The fact that you feel down that you don't have your father's approval, while a disappointing, shouldn't hold you down and pay him little mind. He is the one that should at least be respectful towards your honest, hard work you put.

If you want to change his mind, you need to prove it is useful and has substance.

Short answer, no it isn't more important to do work you love. That's a privilege people with lots of money get to have because they can wait out till they actually start getting income from their dream job.

It's more important that you find a stable job that will guarantee you income, and then you can think about pursuing passions that you like. Because how can you even live if your passion is causing you to fail. Other people are going to depend on you, and you are going to depend on you.

So imo it would be better to do the crap you don't like now, and have all the time/money to pursue things you like in the future. There's no point on gambling on jobs that may or may not pay you. It's better to be on the safe side and have a good financial safety net. Because honestly interest change, and committing to something will just work better out in the long run.

Dream job give a value for your time, a lot of people don't know what they like, what's they dream job, don't even think about it, just accept any job and take a simple life without passion, if you have a job that give you money and it's the job that you love, keep it
