Bubble I agree with You on Your first post. Me myself joined just for some leak. Then I stayed(I joined on ForumCamp era).
When FC went down, every few weeks /days I'd check to see if it's backup, and no we're here.

If all those "anti-leechers" were put in-place at the time, I would probably never be here.

Edit: v4hl, sozin and Pulseey work on backend like, always Tongue

That might eat resources over time, tho I was thinking about the same thing. The only problem I see is false-positives.

Well, that's the way it's supposed to be. But leechers aren't as dumb as you might think (unfortunately). They just start spamming random characters. How would you want to make cuddles recognize this?

Edit:
Your others ideas will not just stop leechers but also stop regulars from posting imho

We just have to gather overall active members who are more engaged in the community. Literally all we have to do.

Quote:So Bubble, how do you expect us to just let leechers leech like that and get away with it? Well, they kinda already do lol
Again.. no.

Your logic is flawed in many ways.
Good attempt though.

Response to OP.

Limit the speed at which newly registered users can create new threads.
A. Can't really do that since they could just post and then we'd have to limit posting aswell and that discourages new members.

Create a feature built into Cuddles which notify staff of (relatively) new members with unnaturally quick posting activity, which could be disabled per-user.
A. Probably extremely hard to implement which would give a lot of false-positives.

Check if there is at least one (or more) word that actually exists in the dictionary within new users' posts.
A. Doable, but might be resource intensive. It's possible to just copy paste other posts instead.

Prevent users from copy+pasting the same thing into multiple posts within a relative period of time.
A. Pretty sure we have something like that already.

Prevent users from posting content that only contains quotes.
A. That's doable, but again they could just add a word or spam something random.

I couldn't agree with bubble more. I am here for the leaks and with all these restrictions on allowing me to download them, it just encourages shitposting. I have been trying to make some decent posts so as to not spam this site(which I am enjoying) but I don't understand all the hate for leechers. Isn't leaks and cracked stuff what drives most people to this forum in the first place? Maybe I am just ignorant, but the only thing I can see as a negative of allowing new members easy access to leaks is the potential for high bandwidth usage from downloads, if the leaks in question are hosted on this site. This seems like it could be solved by requiring leaks to be hosted by alternative file hosting services or setup a way for P2P torrenting to work.

Leeching is heavily discouraged and is bannable in private trackers. Leeching in general is bad if you aren't contributing (seed, share content). I understand that we aren't at a private tracker, but those things are seen as bad for a reason.

Yeah most definitely, leeching on torrents is bad form. But when leaks are hosted on mega, wouldn't it be better to just let people access the content instead of making them post a ton of low effort crap to unlock it? I don't see how that could hurt the forum.
