Any AE alternative?

I know of Natron which is open-source, you can give it a try. Other than that, I can only think of DaVinci Fusion or Hitfilm

i think the closest editing software to AE is Sony Vegas as you can get some the sameplugins on Vegas ( for certain ones ofc ) and other software may not be compatible for the plugin. In terms of anime editing and stuff most likely like Vegas Pro because I've seen some amazing Vegas Pro anime edits which are really similar to ones in AE.

It can depend on the specific use case, but for VFX or compositing purposes, Nuke from the Foundry is also a popular alternative in the industry.
