There are lots of good 2d games out there, Celeste and Hades are good examples.

Are you talking current games with a 2d art style, or legit classic 2d games. There are a ton of old school shmups and beat 'em ups I can recommend, but it's likely you'd have to go the route of MAME to play them. Some, however, are a part of collections available on Switch and Playstation 4.

But for contemporary games with the 2d art style, I agree with PomboBB, Hades is a fantastic rec. But I'd say that my current favorite contemporary game with a 2d art style is Cuphead. I was practically raised in the arcades, so Cuphead brings back great memories of tough, quick and dirty gameplay. I love that game so much. It's like the perfect blend of side-scrolling platforms and side-scrolling shmup.

2d games can offer just as much as 3d so why not?

You should play stardew valley it has really nice mechanics and there are a lot of interesting quests and stories in it.

My favourite 2D game is probably Brawlhalla because its basically a PC version of Smash Bros. And its free.

I enjoy Starbound, give it a shot
