Every Editing software is free if you know where to look

I LOVE Adobe premier, its amazing. In my school for our broadcasting classes we used Premier and it was worth the time to learn it, you can do amazing things with this powerful program.

I love adobe products, so after effect or premiere are the best for me, without any plugins you can do many many things

I would say pirate Camtasia Studio 9, Sony Vegas Pro or just use the basic Windows Movie maker.

If you just want to split video in specific duration, Handbrake is a good choice

You could always pirate something like Sony Vegas or Premier Pro
