Sound is one of my areas of expertise and unfortunately I see more consumer futureshop/bestbuy/etc... brands than anything that is actually great quality. From my experience SHURE has been a good name for headphones, but unfortunately they are up in the professional level for sound quality, meaning that they aren't cheap. Disregarding the consideration for frequency sweep testing and at what Hz the best readings came from, I think the last ones I looked at had a sensitivity of over 120db SPL/mW, which is very good. For music, which is a range of frequencies you want something with a good frequency range/response as well. Anything higher than 30Hz, or less than 18 or 20KHz is probably not great.

If you REALLY cared about good sound quality you would also consider impedance, which typically for headphones varies a LOT more than any other speaker; Earphones -> 8 Ohms to 600 Ohms +, The average speaker is usually 4, 8, or 16 Ohms, disregarding odd brands that decide to use a non-standard 6 Ohms like Bose. It's hardly the case that impedance matches for playing sound via headphones though, and it is typically higher, but if you wanted good sound, that is what you'd do to optimize power transfer and minimize power loss. It becomes critical with *real*/larger speaker systems though, or you'll end up damaging your amplifier.

There's no such thing as "surround sound speakers" -- there is a surround system setup, but it really is just a different arrangement of speakers, using most likely a receiver that will support at least 5.1 or more. Usually they are at least 7.1 now, but the higher end support Dolby Atmos. Either way, there's no music that I've ever heard that is recorded/encoded in surround anyways because most people listen to plain music on a 2ch stereo setup and movies on a surround setup lol. If you can hear music through all the speakers coming from your ipod or something then you are listening to music in multi-channel stereo mode most likely, which is basically mono but through all audio channels.

I have an older pair of Siberia V2 Frost Blue's and they work fantastic. I had a pair of H wireless when the xbox one came out, and they were awesome too.

(Anything steel series is great for audio, then again, everything i use is steel series, keyboard, mousepad, mouse)..............

I was expecting to look at some cheap sh*t when I looked this up but the specs are rather decent on these. For gaming, frequency response is critical I would imagine. These are fairly decent. It's got a built in microphone, initially I couldn't understand why it was a 4-pole however but I assumed it was just a regular headphone set, which would have been a 3-pole stereo jack (typically 3.5mm).

In my opinion, I would probably favor those specs over the Turtle Beach specs I looked at for the higher frequency response. Additionally, 20Hz - 20kHz, >120dB SPL @ 1kHz for the headphone speakers is most likely a best case specification. Most of the audio data will probably be around 300-750Hz because that's within the range of vocal dialog. 50Hz - 15kHz for the microphone is okay as well, lower and higher end doesn't really matter because vocals are usually within the 300Hz range.
