Is using a bitcoin miner worth it. Any suggestions and how long would it take to make a decent profit.

I have used both programs and website software for mining bitcoins,
a simple answer is no end of story.

Compare if you pay more for electricity as you get out of your Bitcoin mine

Bitcoin is a huge waste of time. All the money has been drained from it and Bitcoin's value has dropped.

I think doing a cloud mining is usually advisable during the idle time (when you are not using your pc) because it will slow it down. That is why people will just purchase hashpower and get the profit (but this will only provide big profit if you'll invest big amount too.)

Setting up your own hardware mining farm is expensive and you'll definitely spent much for the electricity not to mention the cost of the hardwares.
