CPU Bottleneck?

I have an i5 4670k that was running with an R9 290 GPU for the longest time. I didn't have many issues but since I had a 1080p 144hz monitor, I thought upgrading the GPU would get me closer to 144fps in most of the games I played while on max settings. So I picked up a GTX 1080 Ti a week back and so many of the games I play even on max settings show40-70% GPU usage with 100% CPU usage. I have shitty 1333mhz 2x4gb ram on top of that and my 4670k doesn't overclock past 4.1 ghz. I was expecting to push 100 fps in most games on max settings with this GPU but clearly I now have to upgrade the rest of my computer too. Question is, will a 7700k or 8700k get me a substantial boost in FPS?

Go for the 8700k for the biggest boost atm.
Quad cores are becoming a bottleneck at this point.

he doesnt need hyperthreading. that is for content creators not gamers. 8600k or any ryzen 7 cpu.

Yeah, If your cpu is 100% time for an upgrade. Go for i7-6700k i7-7800k ish range. I use 6700k and I have a gtx 1080 not ti, So if you're hardcore go for 7800k xD

Yeah I would go with what @WhatACat said. Go for the i7-7800k if you can get it

Higher thread counts are starting to be utilized in newer games.
So no, hyper threading or higher core countsaren'tjust for "content creators."
Also I find it funny you say hyper threading isn't needed, and then recommend Ryzen 7 which uses SMT which is AMD's version of hyperthreading. :lol:
