I don’t think we’re going to see any more billion dollar MCU movies. There have been more MCU movies in the last 15 years than there have been James Bond movies in the last 60. It’s fatigue. Enough is enough.

The Eternals and The Marvels are better than The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 & 3 and Thor 1 & 2, but movies 2 and 3 in a series get a lot more leeway than movies 28 and 29. There’s also the fact that the MCU made characters who’d been unpopular into household names. Now fans want those new household names and don’t care about the unpopular comics characters. Except the two biggest MCU stars left because they were bored.

Seriously, you get Jon Favreau, Joss Whedon, Taika Waititi, and the Russo Brothers together. Give them a year. Are you excited about a Fantastic Four movie?

I’m not being snarky. I love Pedro Pascal. I don’t care that he’s Reed Richards. Season 2 of Loki is supposed to be really good. Season 1 was great. I’m half way through episode 2. I’m just not interested.

None of that really matters though. People don’t go to the movies the way they did before the pandemic. Total box office is down industry wide about 30% compared to pre-Covid. The studios also shot themselves in the foot by starting their own streaming services that are all hemorrhaging money. Why go see Blue Beetle when it’s going to be on HBO Max in six weeks?

Finally, in addition to Marvel fatigue and the industry shift, the writers and actors strikes killed all the hype for The Marvels, which is a fun movie. Yeah, Bob Iger’s got his work cut out for him, but that’s why he makes the big bucks

Why do you think "The Marvels" is underperforming at the box office?
Which is better: DC or Marvel?
What was the first Marvel movie released under Disney?
If 3 billion in box office is even possible, would the best candidate to pull off that feat be a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Will another movie franchise ever come close to the MCU box office?
Yes, they can recover…but it will take some careful planning and readjustment—which they’ve already started to do, fortunately.

The latest Marvel movie to underperform is The Marvels, which could lose the studios $200 million or more considering its budget and marketing expenses, as well as the percentage theaters take. That makes it the biggest failure of the MCU and possibly the biggest box offic

By what measure? Box office was declining before the pandemic, and that completely changed people’s habits about going to the movies. Comparing post-pandemic results to pre-pandemic is going to make most movies flops.
There are people who rail on about how “Marvel movies always follow the same formula.” Other people get upset whenever the franchise takes a risk. Either way, you have some group upset.
The volume of material per year kept growing. With one overall management team, it likely affected quality. 2021 had nine movies and series.
Some people are all about the original Avengers. They aren
Yes, Marvel can recover.

One of the problems Marvel has had is that it is basically competing with itself. A lot of folks want every new movie to top Avengers: Endgame and that's just not possible.

Even Endgame by itself isn't that great without a decade of good movies building up to it.

Which leads to the next problem. For the first time since Iron Man, there is is no direction for the MCU. No Avengers, no Thanos level threat. If anything, the movies feel more like tying up loose ends rather than continuing an adventure.

In my opinion, the only story that feels like it builds to the future is The

What will happen with Hulk after Endgame? I know there won’t be a solo movie, but will there be another Hulk, or a different version of the Hulk? He is very unique, if you think about it.
Why is Bruce Banner stuck as Hulk in Endgame?
Will Hellboy (2019 movie) flop at the box office?
Will Marvel ever recover from the commercial flop that was Captain Marvel?
Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe in decline after a string of disappointments at the box office?
Slump?

The first Thor and second Iron Man movies were mid. Avengers is mid now but wasn’t at the time of course. Captain America is personally in my opinion boring but people still praise it and it’s still loved. Iron Man 3 and Ant Man were okay. Thor 2 was horrendous. Avengers Age of Ultron was mid even back then. Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America Winter Soldier were fire!!

Civil War , fire! Doctor Strange, I personally loved it but I’ve seen a lot of negative towards it so I’ll say it’s okay, GOTG2 fire, Homecoming was okay, Ragnarok was fire!! Black Panther was absolutely fire. Infi

Why do Marvel movies suck now?
Well, because they are the most popular franchise in the whole world. No matter how bad their movies are, they will at least gross 800M. Disney is a big greedy cash cow that doesn’t care about taking risks and creating quality films. Why take commercial risks when you can earn 2 billion with a shit movie. What makes this worse is that they start incorporating “diversity” so they can get an oscar. And the academy is actually falling for it. The MCU movies may be great, but compared to TDK, Logan, and Joker, they are nothing more than basic kids movies(witha few exceptions).

Will Marvel ever recover from the commercial flop that was Captain Marvel?
I dont mind a Female Superhero….I think Wonder Woman Rocked …. But taking a male role and squashing a female into it was just a stupid SJW moment by the marvel management trying to be politically correct. I am not sure when hollywood will figure out that sjw’s only makes up like less than point 1 of 1 percent of the world so pitching to them isnt gonna bring home the bacon if you know what i mean… please Hollywood …. Move on…

The closest thing to a flop Marvel has had in recent years is The Marvels, one of the only Marvel films to lose money, on its box office. However, it topped the box offices its opening weekend at 46 Million dollars, before it lost its top spot to Hunger Games that only did 44 Million, Now there was a massive strike from May to November which stopped a significant amount of Marketing for the film,

Why do Marvel movies suck now?
It sucks now because Disney/Marvel is more worried about identity politics, representation, diversity and censorship more than character depth and story.

Why do Marvel movies suck now?
First off, your movie tastes are what define whether or not you think the new Marvel stuff sucks. Personally though, I kinda agree - Marvel is losing the ball.

I think a big reason is all the politics that they’re starting to incorporate into their movies. I totally support more movies with color and gender diversity (No I am not sexist or racist or some extreme right conservative - step off your high horse if that’s all you think of me) but when the sole focus is on pushing a political agenda, the movie is going to start suffering in other departments.

When we look at the earlier films that got

Considering the DCEU survived having the majority of their movies flopping, as opposed to literally just two of their movies and a whiny fanbase, I’d say the MCU is fine in that department

Could a singular massive failure from an MCU movie cause the MCU movie franchise to fold?
Nope.

Given that The Incredible Hulk was basically a box office bomb, and Captain America: The First Avenger basically broke even at best, and they still went on to make The Avengers, I think it's safe to say that no singular film is going to douse the MCU.

I think anyone who thinks the MCU isn't currently in a slump is willfully blind. The MCU has lost and is losing a lot of its audience, and general audiences are being a lot more picky about which (if any) MCU projects they watch. And the attrition started directly after Endgame. Frankly, this multiverse nonsense is toxic. It destroys stakes, any coherence in storytelling, and any solid sense that anything is meaningful.

There were projects I'd have gone to see if I'd had any hope for them.

I was interested in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier; I hoped it might have much of the Winter Soldier vib

What is the box office verdict of all the films from the MCU?
Why did the other Marvel movies not perform well at the box office where Iron Man broke the box office?
Why did Disney stop making Iron Man movies?
What is the reason for the fall of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame?
