Wrong.

Well, it won't go "drastically down" because there aren't enough people who do it to begin with to call it a "drastic downscale". Though increase in price without increase in value is never good for sales of any kinds. The only times it actually works is when it is needed or addictive to an consumer. Take Subway for example, it has grown annoyingly expensive, people still pay for it because they like it and it is something you have to replace.

You don't need an upgrade, you don't need to replace or recharge it every now and then, it isn't addictive and therefore increasing the cost without increasing the value of the object in question is never a good idea. I even doubt that even Subway would be able to survive if they suddenly increased their price with 30% all of the sudden.

Yet you are an entertainment and knowledge center, as well as hosts for content creators (and in some rare occasions, content creators). I'd also hardly call Patreon a joke considering people earn thousands of dollars each month on it from a hobby and not a full-time job. Not to mention the amount of content creators who take it in use. Think of it like this, earning one thousand dollars a month isn't a whole lot (at least not for a Norwegian). That is if you work 37.5 hours a week, for 4 weeks for about 5.5 dollars an hour.

However, most content creators work far less than 8 hours a day on average. Some might even work as little as 12 hours a week, and still earn over one thousand dollars a month. So because of system such as Patreon, they can earn a resemblance of a living for less than 50% of the work if they have the skills for it. So I'd hardly call Patreon (the leading concept like this atm) a joke.

One last note on "not content creators" part. One of the perks of being "Divine" is access to early new features that are in testing. Hence a perk of upgrading to "Divine" is the access to new content before everyone else. Hence it is an on-going service, like a subscription, only as a high one-time fee instead. Which is proven (pretty much every day) to be a worse system than a smaller re-accruing fee. That is if your goals are to earn money and keep people happy at the same time.

Fine with me. Upgrading is optional and no one forces you to do so.

There probably won't be new upgrades.

Create a site for 50k members.
Then pay for those things on a monthly basis:
  • Servers
  • DDoS protections
  • CDN
  • Mails
Then add money for seasonal contests or events.
You could also add some more money for graphics and resources you need.

Remove tax and merchant fees from the income and finally ask yourself if you want to sell an upgrade for $6.

We're not content creators. Also Patreon is a joke.

yeah, doing a good job Smile

I'm interested. Seems like a cool community so far. Nowhere near as toxic as leak forums and I like the idea of a credit system to at least force leechers to interact with the community.

* Edit: Just became prime as you can no doubt see. Will upgrade once again soon enough xD

If Batman and Robin think the price increase is justified then it's final.

Stop calling it a "high one-time fee" because it's not. Compare it to other sites, and we still have one of the lowest. A monthly fee wouldn't work on a site like ours, just because it works for a certain business platform doesn't mean it works for all. In the end, upgrading isn't mandatory but a way to help us keep the site alive and improving.

Also Subway did a 20% price hike, I guess we can see how that'll turn out and how it won't survive.
