Crawling speed and resources

Hello.
We have a news portal and a lot of news. In Google search console we setted crawling speed to minimal, but in this way our content shows in search after 2-3 days after posting. IF I increase crawling speed a little - we have a VERY large resource consumption (site is slowing down for 70-90%).
Site is on the Wordpress.
We think it's related to the fact that google bots trying to crawl every page we have (even old pages, it's about 10 000 pages). Is there any possibility to set a rule to crawling bots - not to crawl old content, but only content for last 2-3 days?
