Does people still mine for crypto currency, if so why? I am very curious

Yes because of the high value, if you're able then it's worth it to do it even for your future. It's like a pension plan. If you want to and have the capabilities to then why not.

It really depends on the equipment you have and the crypto currency you're mining.

It will no longer be profitable. People around me don't try anymore, either.

i honestly dont think so, i tried it a while back with my computer, and sure while it isnt a professional set up, it was a decently fast computer, despite that however, it took a few days just to mine about 20 cents worth of bitcoin, and i just gave up after realizing the electricity costs probably weren't worth it.

You can engage in mining even now with relatively cheap devices, but it will pay off later.

I doubt itll pay off, unless you use a 5 digit number of cash.
