Do you think that it is right to DDoS someone who hits your server off? The other day someone came on my server and said they would hit us off so I grabbed his IP in case he did. Well he hit the server pretty hard and we all crashed. I put his IP in and bam offline for 9 minutes. Who was in the right? None of us, me, or him? I think i did a favor to other servers because he said he did this to the last server he was on.Iguess he was going to small servers and DDoSing them... what a scumbag.

Yes. It's only karma. In the eyes of the law, you're both guilty, but he was provoked, and did a lot of damage and affected multiple people. (Not damage, but... you can claim that if it ever escalates to legal cases!)

Also, think of it this way. You can TRY to be a good person and NOT DDoS him, but if you don't, someone else who was affected by him will.

Well if you're gonna do this, be wary of the consequences because you may think DDoSing him back is karma, but it won't be karma if you get unlucky and get caught.

Personally I think that anyone that DDoS' anyone is a bit of a shitty person, but this guy sounded like he had it coming.
What server were you running that didn't have DoS protection?

I would assume you ran a (tool) to (dos) In that case you probably didnt hide your ip or take any account to hide your self. Its illegal. Even if he hits your server you cant do it back.

I agree that both are in the wrong for denying servers / services to each other, as my mom always said two wrong dont make it right.

It's not cool to be doing distributed denial of service. It's childish and wrong even more so to attack back. But clearly the attacker was a rookie if he used his WAN ip to ddos you with. Plain stupid and no one gains anything from it. I mean if this was a company that were depending on the IT system and they would loose alot of money on down time then it's still serious but you should never fight back with a ddos that is just putting gas on the flame.

Get some protection up, keep his IP report the crime. We had one here in DK that did a ddos attack on a school. Unfortunately his ISP were monitoring traffic and he got caught was fined with a 150k DKK fine.
