Even when using framework you need to know the technoogy in order to fine tune it.

Im not a professional computer science guy but I was building angelfire sites with my buds back in 1998, getting code from right click view source. It was rough going. A couple times since then Ive made a few pushes to create better and better sites, reading into W3 schools and other websources

I regret to admit... up until very recently I insisted on doing everything from scratch. The necessity to actually make money by selling products through the site pushed me towards Wix. I have to admit its really helpful for fast and quick deployment and easy editing. Truthfully its well formatted for adding your own code as well.

I still love to make sites from scratch but I consider it more of an artistic expression than a better way of working.

it is better to use other's clean and stable code. it will save you time on development and debugging.

for frontend, use react and for backend use API-platform.

I try to that most of the time. Not a big fan of frameworks and stuff

Something like Gatsby can be used to generate a static site, if it doesn't need connecting to a backend.

I started off modifying templates to my liking. After that i started moving things around on the templates to suit me. Then it just became natural progression to start making my own. Then i started with backend coding for things like user systems etc. It makes it a million times easier to edit something to your liking if you know what your looking at and what code your looking for

Yes, a lot of people create WSs from scratch w/o any other use of frameworks. It's no common, but it depends on the job itself.
If you wan to build more sophisticated things WSs, eventually you will rely on frameworks, even if you're a very competent developer, That's because you don't want to "reinvent the wheel", sort of speaking.
The other side, like "why learning html/js/css, when I can just use a platform like Wix?". Same thing, eventually, if you want more complex things you have to put your hands on the dirt, and knowing html5/js is always a plus.
