When I log into my server, I go to the root but can I make it so it loads straight into where I need to be?

Such as /var/www/ ?

The easiest way to do it is to create an FTP user who has the home directory of /var/www.

I believe this will work:
Code:
useradd -d /var/www ftp_user
passwd ftp_user

See this for more help.
