Free? Or almost free? Like below $3 maybe? If so, I have a few places.

Minehut.com is a good free server host! I'm a moderator on it, and i can tell you that it's a really good server host. There's around 300 - 400 servers being hosted. The community is great and you'll love the atmosphere of the server.

Avoid free hosts at all costs, if you're really desperate there is Aternos. Minecraft servers from shared hosts cost so little - and if this is even too much for you, try hosting it yourself. If you can't portforward ( or are too scared to ) - use ngrok and forward 25565.

I would really recommend VPSCraft! Free 24/7 hosting with FTP, w00t! But you really should use it only for free hosting, because I've seen others that had really poor support so... You can start your server there and then transfer the files from the FTP to a paid one!

there is no such thing as "free hosting" the cost to run the servers is far too high from equipment cost and maintenance, and not to mention cooling and power
