Let's Encrypt (https://letsencrypt.org/) offer wonderful free SSL's that you could install on your Server.

With this you don't neccesarily need a VPS. You can just get the certificate instantly. It's still Let's Encrypt though.

Your best choice is letsencrypt. Go for it. You jsut have to renew it every three months.

For those not liking the 3 month duration, just create a cron job to update it automatically.

you can use cloudflare is free too and easier to setup
