Hypixel, Cubecraft - these servers have good friend support. You could play on these.

Making friends IN a server may prove difficult. It might be best to try and join a private server and attempt to make friends by building in vanilla with others.

I've always enjoyed Mineplex as they have a wealth of minigames available.

mineplex is a pretty good server with a bunch of stuff todo and play with.

Hypixel, Cubecraft, Mineplex, MinecraftPoggers, these are some good servers I can think of on the top of my head! Enjoy!
