Hosting a Server

chances are your server won't get popular at all in the current state, depending on the gamemode. if you say your server is "unique" or "different", chances are it isn't. just stick with a formula that you like and doesn't burn you out and you should enjoy yourself.

gmod is not dead, however the hype is slowly going down

You will want a player base. They will invite their friends ect ect. in my experience, who will join an empty server?

gmod has 20k active players consistently right now, not as alive as it used to be but not dead

Gmod is still a very active game, and it still has a lot of players. If you want to start a community i suggest you get someone that has some experience to help you.

Its not dead per say, but a lot of the community has moved on. me personally, I like gmod for the fact that it will run almost anywhere!
