It depends how fast your computer is.

If you just have your personal computer, the electrical bill will cost more than you earn in a month.

Mining bitcoins on your personal PC is useless you're wasting electricity, generating a whole lot of heat and worst of all wearing down your hardware for only a few cents a year. If I were you I would try cloud mining. Cloud mining is renting out hardware and they host it, manage it, and pay the electric bill but they get a small cut of it. I would suggest mining services such as genesis mining. BUT BEWARE OF PONZI SCHEMES (SCAMS) THEY'RE EVERYWHERE in the bitcoin mining community.

It's not worth it at the moment.

You could make something with alternative cyrpto currencies but the profits would be very low unless the machine is specially built for mining.

Not very true, its impossible to make money that way, to make money you have to be part of a botnet, a botnet is operated by one operator, infected devices are rats, they make money for the owner of the botnet, if you own the botnet, or if you own the mining script then you can make money by spreading the software to other devices, saying so, mining scripts do kill your pc and video cards, so its a bad option to use a botnet on a single pc, because your pc will eventually die...

It is possible to buy in bulk a set of old PC's at affordable cheap price; however, mining on a network of 30-50 PC's will not cover the costs (hardware and electricity...). so its a bad option, if you wanna make money on mining then you'll have to buy a botnet (server and script), remember that its very expensive to host such scripts, and you'll need a crypto subscription and a popular software to spread your network... its not worthy anymore...
