Complete noob to bitcoins. Can you make anything from mining on your personal PC? And which is more important RAM or GPU?

You can make around $0.01 with your personal PC in a month if you're lucky.
It's not worth it at the moment.

You could make something with alternative cyrpto currencies but the profits would be very low unless the machine is specially built for mining.

do not even bother, it is too late, it will cost you more and you'll not make anything

It is no more profitable not to mention that rewards are going to decrease by half.

Bitcoin mining is a thing of past. i had been a miner with butterlfy labs kits , also built home miners with gpu cards costing 676 K us dollars. It ws profitable 2 year back. now if you want to get in mining business then make sure you are ready to loose 5k usd in losses unless you got a warehouse filled up thousand of xeon processor machines engaged in btc mining. lol

if you want to make profit in bitcoin then trade it like stocks. buy when price is low. keep buying . sell 50% of lot at once once price is high. keep it with you in hopes for big profit is a FOOLISH decision. buy - sell - buy - sell <- make huge profit.

i do same but in more professional way and make around 150 - 300 in a day as profit

It's too late bitcoin prices going down like hurricane and most of the bitcoins were mined by Chinese.
