How do I download stuff in this community safely?

So I'm interested in some of the softwares offered in this community (Nulledbb), but I'm not 100% sure if its safe. How can I tell apart download links that are safe and unsafe?

Using common sense help and also checking the personals rep and the comments

Upload downloaded files to VirusTotal.com and check to see if there are viruses. If you're totally paranoid, run a sandbox program.

Running it through VirusTotal doesn't always help, I'd recommend downloading it on a throw-away VPS or Sandboxie.

Just scan the files on virustotal
Turn on avast cause he is a lifesaver jk

I agree with the sandbox, although some programs have anti-VM so I'd always run in a VM even if nothing is showing up

vt might be better jhust dont open random .exe stuff because you will wget rated aoitynaa

- Looking at the comments
- Checking out the Uploader
- Checking it on VirusTotal.com

I agree with the first 2 from Aimshock as this is what I would do in your situation.

Looking at the comments to see if at least 10+ people have said "Works fine" or something similar which involves saying something good about the user's upload. BUT if users are saying "bad" or "virus, don't download", then obviously DO NOT download it whatever you do.

Usually, the Supporters on NulledBB can be trusted, as well as if Staff upload the plugins too.

But to always be sure; check how many downloads the plugin has, check the comment, and possibly run it through VirusTotal.com (although I've never used this website before, I'm sure it's safe! )
