How to make a server?

What are you struggling with exactly? Getting the software, making it accessible, customization?

Start new game invite friends
Download steamcmd, place it in C/D folder.
Run steamcmd and write in ->
login anonymous
app_update 4020 validate
wait.
Next download MODmodification and MOD-master
place MODmodification in addons
palce MOD-master in gamemodes folder (rename it likedarkrp (custommod))
download ulib and ulx and place it in addons
And configurate it. idk what game mode u want.

There are quite a few videos that are available on video platforms like YouTube that show how to set up a server.

SteamCMD > force_install_dir > update 4020 validate > finish

It's not that hard

Read the gmod wiki on how to setup a dedicated server. Please do not run a server from your home if you have very slow internet or a very slow computer.

I have actually managed to get one to work on my old Inspiron 1020 but yeah the slower your internet or computer or both is the worse off you will be I would suggest you purchase a VPS from many different websites and install the garrys mod server to there and run it from that if you need help setting up a VPS I am more than happy to help you if you add me on discord nartuosage#0007

If you want you can just make a SingeplayerServer. Go to Singleplayer, on the right side click on 2 or more Players and invite your Friends
