Funny thing that overpopulation problem is not so severe as some people think and talk. Yes, there is terrible overpopulation, BUT its local problem. Few places are insanely desnly poplated and others are basically barren of human life and I don't talk about deserts or other extreme places. Maybe they are not the nicest on the Earth but far from the worse. It's quite similar to hunger prolbem on earth.
I had to make presentation about hunger for ethics on university. First question of it "Does on Earth exists problem of famine?" (well, of course it wasn't exactly this question but I think that this translation is the best). Everyone who dared to open their mouth said yes without even thinking a bit. To be honest I was a bit dissapointed.
There is huge problem of starving people. India, Africa and few other places. But it's not that simple. India that had biggest population of starving people for quite a long time exported way more food than imported. Isn't it funny? Your country (well, parts of it anyway) is starving but you export food.
Another aspect is wasted food. And well, there are HUMONGOUS amounts of food wasted. Just it would solve world hunger if we talk simply about amounts (again it's more complicated than simply numbers). Add to this obesse people, not even overweight, only obesse. We can feed even more people just subtracting amounts of food that would normalise their diet.
Well, I think that I went quite overboard with this rant.

But getting back to the subject - it depends a lot from definition. What is end of the world? Is it:
- end of our modern, technologically advanced civilisation
- death of all humans
- death of all life on Earth

Let's start from end. It's really though one to achieve. Why? There were five known mass extinctions and each killed most of life that existed when it hapenned. And here we are. Life is resilient, it will adapt. Planet could be deadly for humans but something will adapt for enviroment and thrive. The only surefire way to kill all life is to let sun consume this dirtball with water we call Earth. Radiation, extreme temperatures, lack of water and food - there are lifeforms that can live with it. It would surely kill a lot if not all of "our" animals and plants but there would emerge others.
Oh, I forgot about gamma burst. It could fry all of lifeforms in milisecond and we wouldn't see it coming. Sometimes it's better to not know about things like this. Luckilly they are realtively rare and even then they would have to be close enough and correctly positioned (from my memory biggest energy waves go in shape similar to hourglass).

Death of all humans. It's easier. Still hard, though. We as a species are quite stubborn creatures. And, this can suprise some people, we are one of the most resiliant animal species that currently lives. Even without modern medicine. Favourite doomsday devices for humans are nuclear war and/or deadly virus.
Nuclear war. Lot of threats, little of action. It's simply not wothwile. Yup, you killed all your enemies, they killed most of you (standard scenario, no stoping after first detonation) and now what? Most if not all of planet is not habitable. Most of survivors will die from illnesses or stavation. Phyrric vitory at best. Realistically speaking it will never happen. Win like this is worth absolutely nothing.
Deadly virus. Or to be honest any other pathogen but viruses are popular in movies for some reason. If used as biologicall weapon it's easier to defend yourself against it's effects. But enemy can use it too. Again situation similar to nuclear war, but rest of world is hurt less. Civilians die fastest and in biggest amounts. Some survive through sheer luck or innate immunities (even in tailored, deadly pathogen little % could be immune, too big small mutations in billions of people). Hard to kill all.

End of our society. It's easiest and most probable. Basically two of the above. Solar flare that would fry our precious electronics. Army has at least some of them protected. But strongly enough to stop something way stronger that could be caused by nuke in stratosphere? No idea. Anyway it would make a lot of problems. How many of you have little to none cash on you? Banks and electronic storages. And all fried. Many of communication ways as well. Sounds nice.
We could survive it. Some would die. Panic, agressivness from people that want to have supplies, lack of advanced medicine and many others.

Economical crisis on unprecedented scale. Sounds boring but check what caused Wall Street Crash of 1929 and multiply it few times and make it global.

Maybe not end of the world but end of Europe. Too friendly and open attitude can bite in the ass. "Every good deed will be severely punished".

To be honest end of our civilisation is relatively easy to achieve. I could probably think few more ideas and you too.

Andromedia will hit us in millions of years, either that or Donald Trump will fart and everything gets sucked up his butthole. It's 50/50

Reduction in birth rate (Less methane + Less baby products being made in factories + It will help overpopulation)
Plant a fuck ton of trees
Switch to renewable energy
Walk or take public transport
Recycle

and we have a small chance

Probably from climate change if we dont stop dumping green house gasses into our atmosphere. If we do an asteroid could hit us. Technically if we are very unlucky a gama ray burst can melt us all instantly if it hit the earth directly.
